
As Dubai's largest indoor climbing gym, we are looking for Climbing Wall Instructors to join our team.
About The Role
As a Climbing Wall Instructor, you will be providing overall day-to-day customer service and support to ensure a safe climbing environment.
In this role, you will be expected to be very organized in dealing with a number of activities that take place simultaneously. The ability levels vary at the wall so you will have to quickly gauge the climber's level and make sure he's safe.
You will also be responsible for providing advice regarding equipment to clients.
Expected Duties:
Instructors have the largest customer interaction of all our staff and need to be motivated and dynamic individuals who enjoy working with people and instructing indoor rock climbing.
Specific duties will include:
∙ Teaching climbing classes to juniors (7 to 16 years old)
∙ Educating customers to competently put on a climbing harness
∙ Teaching customers to tie the single and double figure eight knot as well as a single keeper knot
∙ Instructing customers in the safe practice of using a Petzl Grigri to top rope belay
∙ Introducing climbing safety to new climbers, including proper bouldering and spotting safety
∙ Teaching short technique classes on a variety of topics
∙ Ensuring safety of both staff and customers within the facility
∙ Evaluating experienced climbers on proper belay techniques
Duties and Responsibilities
Follow proper wall opening and closing procedures.
Ensure the safety of all patrons utilizing climbing wall; remedy all unsafe practices or conditions immediately.
Enforce the climbing wall policies and procedures at all times.
Maintain positive public relations with Mountain Extreme members and visitors.
Instruct climbing skills and safety classes, administer tests and certify climbers.
Completion of all administrative paperwork during scheduled shift. Including scheduling workshops, classes and following up with students to fill up classes
Inspect, issue and maintain climbing equipment; document unsafe equipment and remove from inventory to be repaired or replaced.
Provide first aid in emergency situations.
Grow sales of classes and equipment through contact with climbers and giving advice for equipment sales.
Perform general custodial and maintenance functions, as necessary.
Ensures all climbers have waiver signed or on file.
Monitors climbing wall activities for safety concerns.
Conduct participation counts.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work as a team player with co-workers
Conduct daily inspections of the climbing wall, surrounding area and of equipment
Minimum Requirements
CWI certification
Six months experience working at a climbing gym
Preferred Requirements
Coaching experience
Experience working with junior climbers
Six months experience instructing youth climbing programs
