Beginner is the entry level for candidates wishing to learn basic climbing skill on this nationally recognised scheme.This level focuses on a safety conscious attitude as much as climbing skills.

​

This level will take a young person who has never climbed to a safe level of climbing at the wall. It will also teach them some fundamentals of climbing to help them progress. The Beginner level is composed of three awards:

  • New Climber Award

  • New Climber Technique Award

  • New Climber Technical Award

A Mountain Extreme Climbing Academy logbook is required for this course and is included in the membership

Students must bring their own climbing shoes and harness

FAQs

 

How old do you have to be to do Beginner ?

7 years old is the minimum age for doing this course at Mountain Extreme. If you have doubts if your child is ready you are welcome to speak to one of our instructors to find out more.

 

Do I need to do anything prior to booking someone onto the Mountain Extreme Climbing Academy?

Yes. All minors must be registered with us here at the wall prior to commencing this course. This can be done by filling the disclaimer form online and signing the course contract online ( it has to be completed by a parent or legal guardian). Course fees are paid by credit card on the first day of class.

How long does the course run for?

Young Climbers is a monthly membership, students can finish it in a few weeks or as long as they need to.

 

What happens if my child attains their Beginner New Climber award?

The instructor will fill out their logbook and pass it on to the course director for a certificate. Successful young people can then book onto a Beginner Technique Award course
